Race Report: Black Rock '5' 2026

One of the big events in the Beacon Runners calendar is the infamous Black Rock 5 race. The local race starts in Kinghorn, taking runners along the beach and around the Black Rock itself. The race date is chosen based on the low tide… although most of us are secretly hoping for a bit of water around the rock to spice things up a little 😊

This year, the water level at the rock was fairly low, but there was still plenty of splashing as runners navigated the wet sand on the way out and back. As always, the atmosphere was brilliant, with huge support from spectators along the route.

The race has been running since 1987, when there were just 67 entrants. It now attracts runners from all over the UK and is capped at around 1,000 participants. Such is its popularity that this year’s race sold out in just FIVE minutes!

Beacon Runners were out in force this year, with more than 20 members proudly wearing the bright yellow club colours and taking on the challenge. It was fantastic to see so many familiar faces out on the course and supporting at the finish line. And a big thank you to our photographers who captured some great photos on the night.

Next up on the local race calendar is the Binn Hill Race as part of the Burntisland Highland Games on Monday 20th July, followed by the Donkey Brae 7 Mile Race during the Aberdour Festival on Sunday 2nd August.
