About the Beacon Runners
Who we are
Beacon Runners is a small inclusive running group made up of people of all abilities based in Burntisland, Fife. It’s affiliated with, and under the governance of, JogScotland.
We meet weekly on Monday’s at 7pm in a variety of locations - mainly in Burntisland but can be in Aberdour, Kinghorn or Kirkcaldy.
Each session lasts for an hour and is typically a warm-up jog, stretching and then an interval based session followed by a cool-down jog back to the meeting point. The interval sessions usually run in small groups with people grouped by their pace. People will run between 3-5 miles during the full hour.
All of our sessions are led by two of our coaches. We have eight coaches who are all JogScotland trained & qualified. If you'd like to know more about them, please visit our coaches page.
Most weeks we have 15-30 people attending our sessions, with a fairly even split of genders and ages. Abilities are also very diverse and all abilities are welcomed - if you’re able to run a mile or so continuous jogging/running, irrespective of speed, then you'd be able to take part in a session.
Apart from the Monday night sessions, the club has an active community of people who meet and do other runs, enter and support each other at races and attend social events.

Our History
The club was founded in 1999, to provide a sociable and accessible training group for joggers and runners in the Burntisland area, as well as to encourage new runners into the sport. It was set up by Fife Council and, initially, managed by them before passing that role on to Fife Sports and Leisure Trust. Following the Covid pandemic, when group training wasn’t feasible, we re-launched under the management of Scottish Athletics, via their jogscotland programme.
At the start we tried to provide a bridge for people with a casual interest in running who wanted to take things further but were unsure about attending an established running club. And, while some have gone on to train with bigger clubs in the Fife area which can provide more focused training opportunities (eg Pitreavie AAC, Fife AC, Carnegie Harriers), many runners have achieved their running goals through us, whether that be their first 5k, 10k, marathon or even ultramarathon. For others, simply finding training partners and friends in the Burntisland area, without ever entering a race, has been reward in itself.
