Beecraigs Country Park parkrun trip
Beacon Runners take on Beecraigs parkrun
There’s a growing cohort of Beacon Runners who have well and truly caught the parkrun bug! For those of you not familiar with parkrun, it’s a free, timed 5k run held every Saturday morning in parks and green spaces across the country. Rory, one of our coaches, is a Run Director at the Kirkcaldy parkrun and, as the closest one to Burntisland, it’s where you’ll generally spot five or six Beacon vests each week.
After an abortive attempt to visit Faskally back in January for a bit of Beacon parkrun tourism, we rescheduled for mid-February and 18 of us headed to the Beecraigs parkrun. On only its eighth event that day, we were treated to a dry but chilly morning. After the obligatory team photo and first-timers’ briefing, we took on the new course — and the infamous lung-buster hill after just 1 km! They weren’t joking either; it was quite the climb and made Beverest (as Beveridge Park’s hill is affectionately known) feel like child’s play.
Part of the attraction of Beecraigs for our outing was the legendary gluten-free options at the café afterwards. We all stayed on for a well-earned breakfast before heading back across the Forth to the Kingdom of Fife.
We’re already planning our next bit of Parkrun tourism — maybe finally Faskally, or one of the new events at Broughty Ferry parkrun or Crieff parkrun. Wherever we end up, we’ll be sure to fly the Beacon Runners flag high! If you fancy joining the next trip, keep an eye on the club WhatsApp or Facebook group for details. 😊
