Remembering Allan Munro
1960 - 2026
Everyone at the Beacon was saddened to hear of the recent passing of former member Allan Munro. Allan attended the club frequently for a number of years taking part in a number of races in the club colours.
He was a popular member of the club and following his passing, members shared some of their favourite memories and photographs. We've gathered them here to celebrate a wonderful friend, runner and clubmate.
Just desperately sorry to hear of this. Allan was a wonderfully kind, generous and good-humoured guy. So enthusiastic and positive to be around. He ran with us for a few years pre-covid and went from casual jogger to ultra-marathoner in the time it takes most of us to train for a 10k. He threw himself into it and seemed to relish pushing himself to his limits.
We had many great running adventures together and with others, not least doing an ultra-relay in Jedburgh with Lisa and Trish in orange tutus (as you can see that’s all of us, not just the ladies!) And an epic recce run for the Ochil 2000s with Allan carrying a full picnic hamper on his back for training. An enthusiastic, gutsy and inspirational guy who will be sorely missed.

Allan was a wonderful warm man with a great sense of humour who always had time for people. He encouraged and cheered on everyone and I'll remember him cheering myself and Teresa Waddington on as we set off on our Devil's Burden's leg roaring "Gaun yersel' Maddie!".
A tremendous enthusiasm for life and an inspiration.

Allan was such a genuine, kind person who always made time to have a chat. He was the kind of person who made you feel good about yourself and cheered you up if having a bad day.
I will always remember his kind smile which lit up his whole face and the wee twinkle in his eye. RIP Allan, we’ve lost one of the good guys

A run in the hills with Allan was unique, you laughed, you learned and you were inspired by a man who just ran and ran until he could run no more. His passion and determination was admired by all. A true gent.

Allan, you always had time for others and were an epic runner. I remember you being one of the biggest cheerleaders for everyone at Beacon Runners. Your kindness never went unnoticed. Thank you for the giggles. A true gentleman who will be remembered with the fondest of memories.

Allan, you'll be missed so much by so many people. The Beacon Runners is an incredibly friendly place with everyone welcome and everyone included. Why I go. Well, not as much as I should, but the door is always open.
You took time to chat with me in the warm ups and the warm downs. You remembered that I like music and I like football. So always you asked me about these things. You gave me your opinions about these things! I always loved your opinions! I didn't always agree, but that was alright. The warm up and warm down disappeared in a flash because your chat was always so engrossing.
You were faster and fitter than me and you could have ignored a plodder at the back. But you held me back to offer encouragement. I always left your company feeling better about the world.
Thanks for your company. I'll leave you with a very appropriate song for you.

Allan Munro was such was such a brilliant person to be around, he was fun and kind he had a word for everyone making them feel included he throw himself into exercise whole heartedly and made so many runs and bootcamp much more enjoyable.

I'll remember him as a mountain goat running in the Lomonds during Devils Burdens runs... appearing at meeting places that I assumed were too far away to have run too but no there he was!... and at the Highland Fling in 2017 when we ran in the relay.
He ran the first leg of the relay... I ran the third it was a slog! I rounded the last corner at Beinglas and he was there 100m out from the checkpoint encouraging me in. Always happy out running in his Beacon vest.

Allan was a great guy who was always so friendly and took the time to chat about anything and everything. I remember bumping into him a few times while out for a run and it’d add 20 mins to the run by the time I’d stopped for a chat.
My favourite memory is running the RNLI Reindeer/Santa run in Kinghorn with him- for some reason we decided to do it as a 3 legged race. Great fun and much hilarity as we stumbled round!
There was also the New Year’s Day Loony Dook that he did in a fluorescent mankini but the less said about that the better!!
I was also lucky enough to be Beaver Scout leader to 3 of his children and he was always keen to help out there too.

Looking through everyone else's photos has brought back so many great memories. Allan had an incredible way of remembering the little things about people and was genuinely interested in how everyone was doing. He was kind, supportive and always up for a blether, which made running a bit more enjoyable.
He will be missed by so many and his kindness will be remembered for a long time.
