Beacon Runners Jog Group Constitution

Produced by Club Development Consultancy (29th April 2025) and Amended by George Lees (Beacon Runners) (29th September & 3 November 2025).

1. Name


The name of the group shall be: Beacon Runners, affiliated to jogscotland & scottishathletics.


2. Purpose


The purpose of the group is to:

  • Promote inclusive, safe, and enjoyable jogging opportunities in the local community.
  • Support the physical and mental wellbeing of participants.
  • Operate under the guidance and ethos of jogscotland.

3. Group Contacts

  • The group shall have a minimum of two named contacts: a Lead Jog Leader and a Co-Lead (or admin contact).
  • At least one of the main group contacts must hold a valid LIRF/Coach License
  • These individuals are responsible for the general organisation, communication, and safe running of sessions.

4. Membership

  • Membership is open to all adults who wish to participate in group jogs.
  • The group will maintain a basic register of current members.
  • Membership of Beacon Runners is £30 per calendar year (pro-rata for new members joining in year).
  • Beacon Runners Jog Leaders deliver their coaching responsibilities free of charge. All money received through membership fees will be used for purposes relevant to the delivery of the Beacon Running Club, and may include:
    • Training and accreditation of coaches, including disclosure forms
    • Up-front payment of team entries for races and competitions
    • Payment for club kit, clothing and other relevant merchandise
    • Prizes for club competitions
    • Licences or rental fees and services for club events
    • Provisioning (ie food, drink, consumables) for club events
    • Charitable donations

5. Code of Conduct

  • All members and leaders shall adhere to the jogscotland Code of Conduct, promoting respect, inclusivity, and safety.
  • Any breaches of this code may result in suspension from group activities, at the discretion of the group leads.

6. Safeguarding

  • jogscotland is explicitly an adult-only programme.
  • Groups MUST adopt the most recent UKA & HCAF adult safeguarding policy.
  • All leaders must hold appropriate jogscotland/scottishathletics training and qualifications.
  • The group will communicate clearly to its members the process for handling conflict, disciplinary action, and resolutions. Refer to the Scottish Athletics Welfare team for guidance when required.

7. Health & Safety

  • The group shall complete and maintain basic route risk assessments for regular jogging sessions.
  • Jog leaders are responsible for promoting safe practice, including warm-up, cool-down, and checking for hazards.
  • The jog group shall aim to follow the recommended 1:12 leader to athlete ratio at sessions.

8. Group Meetings

  • The group should aim to hold at least one informal meeting annually to reflect on progress and consider any changes to leadership or activities.

9. Affiliation

  • The group shall affiliate annually with jogscotland/scottishathletics and pay the required registration fee.
  • Affiliation is contingent on meeting the requirements set by scottishathletics, including safeguarding, insurance, and leadership standards.

10. Amendments to this Constitution

  • This constitution can be amended at a group meeting with agreement from both named contacts and consultation with group members.

11. Dissolution

  • If the group decides to disband, members should be informed, and any remaining funds donated to a local charitable cause or returned to jogscotland/scottishathletics.
